I thought I'd share a conversation I had with Miles this morning.
Miles likes Johnny Cash, a lot. His favorite song is Ring of Fire. A few weeks ago I played Social Distortion's version for him. This morning Miles asked to hear "Johnny Cash's Ring of Fire, except for the
other Johnny Cash's Ring of Fire," meaning the Social Distortion version. So I put it on. Miles asked "Who is singing?"
"The singer's name is Mike Ness," I toldl him.
Miles replied, "Is he dead?" All his other musical heros are dead. Johnny Cash, Joey Ramone, Johnny Ramone, John Lennon...
"No, he's not dead. I don't want him to be dead..." I tried to hold back a giggle.
"I don't want him to be dead either. Is he going to be dead?" asked Miles.
"I hope not Miles," I replied.
"He plays LOUD!"
"Yeah, he sure does. Do you like it?"
"Yeah! Is he going to play loud when we go to the place where he plays?"
You want to go
see Social Distortion play?" I asked, a little bit surprised. Miles has never really wanted to go see people play music that I've played for him.
"Yeah," said Miles. "And I want to go all the way to the chairs in the very, very front. Matt, we're going to have to walk SO, SO FAR!" he said while pointing determinedly forward.
So we decided to look on the internet for Social Distortion shows near our house. Unfortunately, I had to break the news that they're not coming close enough to Philadelphia on this tour..
